About Mrs. Dahlem

A little about my educational background: I obtained my Masters of Arts in Teaching at NC State University. I hold a California, North Carolina, and Maryland Multi-subject Teaching License (K-6) as well as Earth Science, Physical Education and Health.
My family moved to the DC area in 2012 from North Carolina where we spent 3 years and I was a 2nd grade teacher in a suburb of Raleigh. Before that we were in San Diego where I was the Education Director for an environmental non-profit organization and I created standards based curriculum for classrooms K-12 related to water conservation, water quality, recycling, composting and household hazardous waste disposal. I was often in the classroom

presenting this curriculum as well as school-wide assemblies at an average of 200 elementary and middle school presentations per year in addition to presentations reaching a minimum of 5,000 high school students every year. Throughout my time there, I had visited every school in the county.

I also coordinated
(through the CA Coastal Commission) San Diego County's site for Kids Ocean Day:
I designed and executed the aerial art picture for San Diego for 2008 and 2009. I also designed the aerial art that Los Angeles used for their 2008 design as well.
Fun Fact: My husband, Jim, volunteered to help me that day and is the orange dot in the tip of the bottom part of the tail!

This photograph contains 1,000 San Diego elementary school students whom came to the beach to participate in a beach clean up and aerial art piece after I visited their school for their educational presentation.

I am passionate about science and environmental conservation and weave it into our classroom routines and curriculum.  Fun Fact: I am also certified to teach Earth Science for grades 7-12 and Heath/Physical Education K-12!

In my free time, I love to hike, run marathons, teach fitness classes, read, visit the beach and mountains and spend time with my family. I live with my husband, our 4 year old daughter, Avery, our golden retriever/yellow lab cross, Kylie, and our cat, Millie.
